FAQs

How are sessions run?

Tutoring Sessions are run through Google Meet and we will use Google Drive to store all our resources and all the work we do in tutoring sessions.

How are groups formed for Group Sessions?

Groups are fully formed by the students themselves from the same school. This is for a few reasons as it ensures that the SAC requirements are consistent across all students Additionally, there is familiarity among the students which means that they are even more comfortable in our sessions and finally, it guarantees you a group.

If I sign on for Group Sessions, can I also do some extra 1 on 1 sessions when I need them?

Of course, you can! This is subject to the availability of your tutor but extra 1 on 1 sessions can be accommodated for and are a popular choice in exam preparation season.

Do I have to do weekly sessions?

Yes, we only offer weekly sessions at this stage. We have found in our experience that consistent tutoring is most effective and therefore we are unable to see a great improvement with less frequent than weekly sessions.

Will my tutor mark essays?

Short answer, yes and no. Long answer, yes in Year 12 through VCAA’s marking rubric because it is the rubric that will be used to mark your exams. This rubric may (and likely will) vary from the rubric used by your school for SACs. For Year 11 and below, ranges can be provided (such as low, medium, and high) but a specific score is harder to ascertain because there is no singular rubric and assessment that is identical across all schools in the state.

Can my group size change?

Yes, groups can be changed however they can not exceed 3 members. If you are a group of 2 and another friend wants to join (and the original group is happy with this) then they go through the onboarding process, everyone signs a new contract and we are good to go!

Will my tutor mark my essays outside of sessions?

Each tutor will have their own teaching philosophy and that may include live marking (marking in the session) or it may include discussion of a pre-marked essay. This can be discussed with your specific tutor.

Is online tutoring effective?

Yes, absolutely! Online tutoring enables all parties to feel most comfortable in their respective environments and helps minimise costs due to the lack of travel. Our tutors are also trained to maintain effective and engaging lessons online. Additionally, sessions include a maximum of 3 students which means that online tutoring will be nothing like lockdown online schooling (*shivers* from the memory).

Can I do a trial session?

Absolutely! After the complimentary phone consultation, there is a complimentary trial session for you and Learning Loft Education to see if we are a good fit.

Are reschedules and cancellations allowed?

Yes, here at Learning Loft Education, we understand that life sometimes gets in our way unexpectedly and this may mean your bus won’t be coming for another 45 minutes and you’ll miss your session - that is okay, we can try reschedule! Rescheduling is always preferred so that we can make the most of our learning. Both rescheduling and cancellations are subject to potential charges.

Do the tutors have a WWCC?

Yes, student safety is our biggest priority and therefore all employees are required to have a valid Working With Children Check to work for Learning Loft Education. Each employee’s WWCC is verified during the hiring process.
